The History of Grenelefe - The resort was first developed by George Phelps in the 1960s as Arrowhead Development. The resort became internationally renowned under Japanese ownership in the 1980s as Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort, with three world-class golf courses, 20 professional tennis courts and a conference facility that drew companies from all over the world.
- Throughout the 1980s, Grenelefe hosted international visitors as well as some of the world’s top athletes – serving as a PGA Qualifying School and the site of the United Airlines Tennis Tournament of Champions.
- In 2001, the resort was acquired by new owners, yet much of the community remained undeveloped for six years.
- In 2002 the West Course was closed, leaving only the South and East courses available for play. This left many residents with homes overlooking an overgrown field instead of a pristine golf course.
- Feltrim Developments contracted to purchase the property in early 2008, and plans to invest $300 million in improvements and renovations over the next ten years, renaming it Horizons at Grenelefe.
